First and foremost, this is a sex site. Most people expect to be able to PRV at will, and I imagine more than enough times, it's been a welcome event, so as to encourage those that do this. That being said, as the rules stand now, a member of the chatroom must state clearly and politely that they do not want to PRV (either to a Mod or publicly in chat), and after that, if their wishes are not respected, a Mod can take action.
As for solutions to this, I know that they've been bandied about of late. The best option, in my opinion, would be an individual /ignore feature in chat, as there is on IRC, and many other chat servers.
It is my considered opinion that if the members of chat want a new rule made "ask first" then that should be taken up at the administration level to conduct a poll and make a decision.
In the meantime - I understand that some people think that it's the "principle" of the issue and don't want to turn of their PRVs. Well, that's nice and all, however, I say again - this is a sex chat. The /prvoff is a valid choice.
For those who do want to PRV with selected individuals, I have some suggestions. First, sometimes it works to simply announce that your PRVs are off, turn them off for a few minutes, then turn them back on. Most people won't know that you've turned them back on and you can go back to your private conversation. Another solution is to inform the person with whom you do wish to PRV with that you will exit under your current nick and rejoin under another, more masculine/gender non-speciific nick. That way, it's most unlikely that you will be constantly barraged.
I know this isn't a perfect system, but these few tips can save a lot of problems for folks who are bothered by what's going on.
